Plaza Merdeka offers its shoppers an array of food and beverages. Pop in to our Food Plaza on Level 3 and spoil yourselves for choice. Here, Your Downtown Kitchen (operating 10am to 10pm) has an exciting variety of food items which are ready to either pamper your taste buds or to satiate your hungry bellies.

The dizzying assortment of food runs the gamut from local to international cuisines. Rest assured local chart-buster allures like Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee are also available here. Also, you can enjoy another Kuchingites’ favourite, Penang Char Kueh Tiaw.

Then we also have Western treats including a Japanese stall, locals favourite Roti Canai while Coffee & Toast serves the good old kaya toast. This place has transpired as a new hangout area for tea time where one can get really nostalgic when chilling out here as the golden memories of having soft-boiled eggs, toasts and coffees are brought back.

The seating layout at the food court has been creatively and thoughtfully arranged with an aim to cater to the various fancies of the customers.  For example, there is a corner for you to sit facing the Padang Merdeka while working on your laptop. And the entire food court is flushed with a rhythmic blend of lighting to create a livelier and more brilliant atmosphere.

All said and you’re still hankering for your celebrated fast food treats? Don’t worry. They are here as well — Pizza Hut, KFC, Burger King, Subway and McDonalds. In Kuching, Plaza Merdeka is the only shopping mall that has McDonalds and Subway so far.

And we have more for your eat out or refreshment: Starbucks, Gloria Jean’s Coffee, Secret Recipe, Centuryin Cafe, SCR Xpress, Mr. Dakgalbi, and Gong Cha. Besides the wide selection of food on Level 3, other eateries are on Level LG at the mall.

When talking about food, we remember that food is also about making people happy. Thus, we do hope to see families, friends and even strangers connect through food. And we are committed to make you all feel comfortable and joyful when visiting the mall and Kuching.

Special thanks to Datuk Chef Wan, a famous Malaysian celebrity and professional chef who was one of the invited guests for the grand opening of the new food court. Chef Wan was awarded the Best Celebrity Chef in the World at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Paris in 2009, beating 250 chefs including Jamie Oliver.
